Characteristics of magnesium alloy:

Low density, good specific performance, good shock absorption, good electrical and thermal conductivity, good process performance, poor corrosion resistance, easy oxidation and combustion, poor heat resistance.

Its processing and corrosion and mechanical properties have many characteristics: fast heat dissipation, light weight, good rigidity, with a certain corrosion resistance and dimensional stability, impact resistance, wear resistance, good attenuation performance and easy to recycle; In addition, there are high thermal and electrical conductivity, non-magnetic, good shielding and non-toxic characteristics.

Application: Magnesium alloy is widely used in portable equipment and automotive industry to achieve the purpose of lightweight.

Application: Magnesium alloy is widely used in portable equipment and automotive industry to achieve the purpose of lightweight.

Although the specific gravity of magnesium alloy is heavier than that of plastic, the strength and elasticity per unit weight are higher than that of plastic, so in the case of the same strength parts, the parts of magnesium alloy can be thinner and lighter than those of plastic. In addition, because the specific strength of magnesium alloy is also higher than that of aluminum alloy and iron, the weight of aluminum or iron parts can be reduced without reducing the strength of the parts.

Magnesium alloy has the highest relative strength (strength to mass ratio). Specific stiffness (the ratio of stiffness to mass) is close to aluminum alloy and steel, and much higher than engineering plastics.

In the elastic range, when the magnesium alloy is subjected to impact load, the energy absorbed is half larger than that of the aluminum alloy, so the magnesium alloy has good seismic and noise reduction performance.

The melting point of magnesium alloy is lower than that of aluminum alloy, and the die-casting performance is better. The tensile strength of magnesium alloy castings is equivalent to that of aluminum alloy castings, generally up to 250MPa and up to more than 600 MPa. The yield strength and elongation are not much different from aluminum alloy.

Magnesium alloy also has good corrosion resistance, electromagnetic shielding performance, anti-radiation performance, can achieve 100% recycling.

The stability of magnesium alloy parts is higher than that of high pressure castings, and the dimensional precision can be carried out with high precision machining.

The magnesium alloy has good die-casting performance, and the minimum thickness of the die-casting parts can reach 0.5mm. Suitable for manufacturing all kinds of automobile die casting parts.

However, the linear expansion coefficient of magnesium alloy is very large, reaching 25 to 26 μm/m ° C, while the aluminum alloy is 23 μm/m ° C, brass about 20 μm/m ° C, structural steel 12 μm/m ° C, cast iron about 10μm/m ° C, rock (granite, marble, etc.) is only 5 to 9 μm/m ° C, glass 5 to 11 μm/m ° C.

Magnesium alloys are alloys based on magnesium and composed of other elements. Its characteristics are: small density, high specific strength, large elastic modulus, good shock resistance, impact load capacity than aluminum alloy, good corrosion resistance. The main alloying elements are aluminum, zinc, manganese, cerium, thorium and a small amount of zirconium or cadmium. The most widely used is magnesium aluminum alloy, followed by magnesium manganese alloy and magnesium zinc zirconium alloy.

Magnesium alloy is the lightest of all structural alloys, so the weight of aluminum or iron parts can be reduced without reducing the strength of the parts. The specific strength of magnesium alloy is obviously higher than that of aluminum alloy and steel, and the specific stiffness is similar to that of aluminum alloy and steel. In the elastic range, the energy absorbed by magnesium alloy under impact load is larger than that of aluminum alloy, so the magnesium alloy has good seismic and noise reduction performance. Under the same load, the vibration reduction property is 100 times that of aluminum, and 300 to 500 times that of titanium alloy. The shell of 3C products (mobile phones and computers) should be able to provide superior anti-electromagnetic protection, and the magnesium alloy shell can fully absorb electromagnetic interference with a frequency of more than 100db. The appearance and touch of magnesium alloy are excellent, making the product more luxurious, and it is less prone to corrosion in the air.

The heat dissipation of magnesium alloy has absolute advantages compared with alloy. For the radiator of magnesium alloy and aluminum alloy with the same volume and shape, the heat (temperature) produced by a heat source of magnesium alloy is more easily transferred from the root of the heat sink to the top than that of aluminum alloy, and the top is easier to reach high temperature. That is, the temperature difference between the root and the top of the radiator of aluminum alloy material is smaller than that of the radiator of magnesium alloy material. This means that the temperature difference between the air temperature at the root of the heat sink made of magnesium alloy material and the air temperature at the top is larger than that of the heat sink made of aluminum alloy material, so that the diffusion convection of the air inside the radiator is accelerated, and the heat dissipation efficiency is improved. Therefore, at the same temperature, the heat dissipation time of magnesium alloy is not half of that of aluminum alloy.

Therefore, magnesium alloy is the ideal material for LED and other lighting, automotive application parts, and other parts requiring high quality, high strength and high toughness.
